The life and mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born in Mecca, Arabia, in the year 570 CE. He belonged to the noble tribe of Quraish, which was in charge of the Kaaba, the sacred house of worship for all Arabs. He was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandfather and uncle. He was known for his honesty, integrity, and generosity. He worked as a trader and a shepherd, and married Khadija, a wealthy widow, when he was 25 years old.
At the age of 40, he received his first revelation from Allah through the angel Gabriel in a cave near Mecca. He was commanded to recite the words of Allah and to proclaim his message to the people. He started preaching Islam, which means submission to Allah, to his family and friends. He faced persecution and opposition from the idol-worshippers of Mecca, who saw him as a threat to their power and traditions. He migrated to Medina, a city north of Mecca, in 622 CE, where he established the first Muslim community (Ummah) and state. He received more revelations from Allah until his death in 632 CE. He left behind the Quran as his legacy and guidance for all Muslims.
The revelation and compilation of the Quran
The Quran is the word of Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over a period of 23 years. It is divided into 114 chapters (Surahs) and 6236 verses (Ayahs). It covers various topics such as belief, worship, ethics, law, history, science, etc. It is the primary source of Islamic faith and practice. It is also a miracle of eloquence, wisdom, and knowledge.
The Quran was revealed in Arabic, the language of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his people. It was memorized by him and his companions, who also wrote it down on various materials such as parchment, bones, leaves, etc. The Quran was compiled into a single book during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, the first successor of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), under the supervision of Zaid ibn Thabit, one of the scribes of the Prophet. The Quran was standardized and copied during the caliphate of Uthman, the third successor of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who sent copies to different regions of the Muslim world. The Quran has been preserved in its original form and language until today. c481cea774
